The Florida Panthers Win Presidents’ Trophy
With a 4-0 win over the Ottawa Senators, the Panthers surpassed 122 points (58-17-6). After a 5-4 shootout defeat to the Nashville Predators in Denver later that evening, the Colorado Avalanche (56-18-7) slipped three points behind Florida.
Except for Seattle and Winnipeg, who have a make-up game on Sunday afternoon, both clubs have one game remaining to play on Friday, the last night of the season.
With the top record in the NHL, the Florida Panthers will have home-ice advantage throughout the Stanley Cup playoffs.
The Chicago Blackhawks, who won the Presidents’ Trophy in 2012-13, were the last team to win the Stanley Cup. Since 1987, the league’s highest scorer has won the title eight times.
